Four police constables from the Wadduwa Police Station were arrested yesterday in connection with the death of Samith Dilshan, a 24-year-old father of one who resided in the Talpitiya area of Wadduwa.
Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manathunga, stated that the four constables were arrested yesterday (12) evening by the Panadura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit, and their duties have been suspended. The four suspect police officers are scheduled to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today (13).
On Monday the 10th, Dilshan was arrested by the Wadduwa Police Traffic Division officers regarding a traffic accident and was released on bail the same day. After returning home, he began vomiting blood, and relatives admitted him to the Panadura Hospital. However, Dilshan passed away the next day (11) while receiving treatment at the Panadura Base Hospital.
A magistrate’s inquiry has been conducted regarding the body, and according to court orders, a post-mortem examination has been ordered to provide a forensic medical report. Accordingly, the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of the Panadura Base Hospital is scheduled to conduct the post-mortem examination.
Investigations have been initiated under the leadership of Panadura Assistant Superintendent of Police Nishantha Senaratne, following a complaint made to the Panadura Senior Superintendent of Police’s office by Roshini Lakmali, the deceased Dilshan’s wife.
